Veronica Mars.

Veronica Mars.
So I recently started watching Veronica Mars. I have been meaning to watch it, but I didnt. Now that I did I couldn't stop watching. I just kept going to the next episode and before I knew it, it was over.
Veronica Mars is about a amateur sleuth who after the death of her friend devotes her time working for her disgraced sheriff father as a private investigator. She works with him and helps various clients solve their problems. I was a bit happy it wasn't a murder of the week. Most of these shows seems to go that way. Every week there is a new murder. It makes sense in some shows, but it does get a bit annoying. Each case is rather unique and fun.
For the next bit I am just going to give a small description of each season's mystery arc. If you want to get to the meat and potatoes, just skim. There are no spoilers in this spoiler tag. It's just to save room and makes it easier to just skip over if you choose too.
Contains no real spoilers I promise
Now to the meat and potatoes.
Veronica is a badass. She is also someone you would never want to make angry. I love her personality and she is hot. Her relationship with her dad is brilliant and always fun to watch. She is smart, she is quick with a joke, and is well it's hard to describe her. I also love how every so often a side character will bring up how her methods of getting even are a bit extreme for them. But that's sorta what I like about her. I also love the fact that where ever she goes, she always seems to make enemies. You know there was this one dream sequence of what her life might have been like if Lily was never murdered... and oddly she ends up with logan in it, everything just felt off. In the flashbacks in season 1 she really was a different person. Maybe it was the hair, but she seemed far more interested. It was then I realized, despite how crappy her world was, she was probably better for it along with other people.
Keith. To find out what is happening to him at the end of season 3, and that he lost the election in season 2 was just a sad thing. He would have made Neptune a better place no doubt in my mind. He is a great detective and overall just a great dad. He would have my vote.
Cliff. yeah he was a minor character at best. You may not remember his name, but he is the go to guy if you need a free lawyer for legal problems. He defends Logan, despite Cliff urging him to find a 'real lawyer' and scenes with him in it were always fun.
Wallace. Watching him go from this reluctant sidekick of Veronica to someone who can do some good detective work was always great. Kinda sad that he wasn't in Season 3 all that much. But then again I sorta wish we saw a more balanced relationship between Veronica and Wallace. I read a comment that it seemed one sided... and truth I have to agree to some degree. But I am just going to assume that the weeks and seemingly months between episodes its not so one sided.
Sheriff Lamb. I hated him. Well that's not entirely true. Overall he was a fun bumbling and crappy sheriff. How he got reelected is beyond me. But you quickly learn that after Veronica woke up and realizing she was raped she went to the Sheriffs office and Lamb was a complete asshole to her. No its not that he didn't believe her it was that it seemed like he was enjoying himself as she taunted her. During the season 3 Rape arc he even goes as far as imply that Veronica is crying wolf a second time. When he learns that she doesnt remember, he makes a comment that implies that perhaps Rape really means 'I regret having sex with someone' Either way. I hated him... sad to say his death wasn't rewarding at all. Would have loved to see him completely disgraced first.
Mac. She is an amazing character. I loved that she had a much bigger role in season 2 and 3 and she wasn't just a throw away character. She becomes the computer expert for Veronica. The Q to Veronica's Bond. or... I think I goofed up that phrase. A truly incredible character.
Weevil. Can you believe I got to the Big Spoiler section when I realized I forgot about Weevil? Weevil was an amazing character. He starts off as the leader of the PCH Bike Gang but quickly becomes more then that. He befriends Veronica... at least the kind of friendship that can survive several accusations of various crimes. But as a character he really evolved into something far more. I really hated that he wasn't there for most of season 3.
Now for the love interests. Yup I will say that I am a hater of shippers... but the truth is... I am part shipper myself. I am what you may call a self hater. But the thing is I also love a good love story. Whether its a small subplot or a major thing.
Now this section may contain unintentional spoilers along with general opinion of the characters.
Duncan. Duncan is the brother of Lily, Veronica's best friend, and boyfriend before Lily's Death. You know I never really liked him. Which is odd because at one point I was glad she chose Duncan over Logan. But then Logan at the time wasn't exactly high on my list. But overall I just don't really like him. He isn't a bad guy, he just sorta seems bland. I just couldn't see Veronica ending up with him.
Piz. We meet Piz at the start of Season 3 and it becomes obvious he has a crush on Veronica. Piz is the roomate of Wallace and the host of a radio talk show. Now again he wasn't a bad character. But I just really don't see him with Veronica. I mean they seem to work great together... Maybe I am suffering from Shipper Blindness... but there are moments where Veronica and Logan are together, even after breaking up, where she is just happy. Piz turns out to be the last relationship she is in as Season 3 ends... and with no fourth season.
Logan.
It took me awhile to like him but in the end I was cheering for Veronica and Logan. Now Logan is the son of Aaron Echols a famous actor and... well no spoilers. He is the only character that seems capable of keeping up with Veronica. When things were going good between them, they were great. The problem with Logan as a character is that he spent most of the time depressed and looking sad. There were very few moments of just Logan and Veronica being happy. But as the series goes on Logan evolves into more then just the son of a rich actor. What I really loved is when Veronica confronts Logan about hiring a body guard to tail her around without her knowing. Oh yeah and in general he tends to screw up pretty big.
Here is why. At the end of the day he would rather have Veronica hate him then to let Veronica get hurt. He pretty much spells it out for her. Now if I were veronica, i'd probably be pissed too anyways. But it does show how much Logan actually cared about her... even if he was a bit misguided.
In the series finale there is a scene where Veronica warns Logan about how connected a certain someone was and why Veronica just sat there and took his verbal abuse because of it. He knew that she had made an enemy out of a very powerful person... he goes ahead and beats him up anyways. Again maybe not the best way to demonstrate his love... but it's also nice to know he would do anything for her.
Now sadly we Veronica and Logan shippers didn't get the onscreen reunion of them. But apparently, and I have only read this in a few places, that in a commentary on the Season 3 DVD. Implies that it was always going to be Veronica and Logan in the end. Which means, I can live with that. Not that I will care in a couple of days anyways. But for now its good to know they would have ended up together.
Now for the big spoilers.
Anyways I have typed to much on the show for now.
Oh one last thing.
Vinny. I both like and hate him aswell. Great character and I really hate that he decided to run for sheriff. In fact if he does end up winning. I hope to god there would be a special election a few months later because... he would make A HORRIBLE sheriff. But he is a fun character.
Kristen Bell was fantastic in this series. She kept her emotions mostly bottled up. But when you see that bottle crack its heart wrenching.
Also.
Veronica and Logan forever.

- Spoiler:
- Seasons 1 and 2 each of their season long mystery. Over the course of the season Veronica or Keith, her dad, discover evidence to solve a case. Even if they are not always working side by side on this.
Season 1 is great. It offers 2 big mysteries and one that will last until the end of Season 2. The first mystery is the death of her friend Lily Kane. You quickly learn that Keith went hard against Lily's father for the murder. Unfortunately he is one of the most powerful people in Neptune. I must admit I did not figure out who killed her until moments before it was revealed. Even though it was perhaps the most obvious of choices... but then again there was one thing about the case that never made sense. But you don't find that part out until towards the end of Season 2. But the case itself was solved by the end of season 1.
The second mystery was what happened the night she was drugged and raped. While it's not really a focus, there is a brilliant episode that solves the case... well no- well nevermind.
Season 2 focused on the mystery of a bus crash that killed 8 students. The motives uncovered ranged from killing a witness, getting life insurance, and a scenario where someone decides to play 'God.' The bus crash seemed to drag in parts and didn't have the same intrigue as the Lily's Murder. However the conclusion to this was FANTASTIC. I actually didn't figure this one out until it was to late. But looking back it was all there. If you paid attention you could have figured this one out.
Season 2 also focused on the death of Felix, a PCH Biker. This one also seemed to drag and it focused on Logan and Weevil trying to solve it. Veronica didn't get much time in this case, but she did offer one hell of a scene in a confessional as part of it.
Season 3 was different. Instead a season long mystery arch it was broken down into 2 big mysteries over the span of 6 or 8 episodes each leaving 4 episodes at the end being easy Case of the Week.
The first mystery focuses on a series of rapes at the Hearst College(and if you didn't figure this one out before it was revealed shame on you)) We get a glimpse of it as in season 2 as she goes to Hearst with Wallace to check it out. God I can't remember what its called. This I didn't figure out until she did. Well sorta. At first I thought it was this one guy... but then I was wrong. Then I thought. Hey why not let it be Sheriff Lamb(god I hate that fucker) But I had poked a hole in the suspects alibi...
This was one of my favorite mysteries since it was the second most personal case she had to work on as she had been raped in a similar way a few years ago.
The second mystery in Season 3 was the Dean's Murder. This one was also fun and I figured it out halfway through the final episode and suspected it an episode earlier... or whenever Veronica was in jail... oh that was an amazing scene. The final confrontation between Veronica and the Murderer was just pure awesome.
The final mystery to be solved was also great, but a bit of a let down as far as conclusions go. If you have seen it, you may know why. I think I know why they left it like that but it really doesn't make sense. For character development it does... but still.

Now for the big spoilers.
- Spoiler:
- So Aaron Echolls killed Lily. Like I said I only figured it out just moments before we saw the tapes. But looking back the evidence was all there. We knew Lily had a big secret, and it wasn't Weevil. So what could it have been?
We also learn that in the guest room there is a spy cam to record either Logan or his father having sex. Now of course since Logan sleeps there, we assume it was just logans.
Then there was how abusive Aaron was. We watch him beat the crap out of someone who hit his daughter. We learn that he has been beating Logan his whole life. We learn that he also is notorius for cheating on his wife.
Everything you really needed to know to solve the case was right there. Well maybe not figure it out for certain, but it was enough to give a strong impression.
Season 2 and the Bus Crash.
So it was Cassidy who caused the bus crash! That I didn't see coming until Veronica stumbles onto a group photo of a little league and it showed that Cassidy was not pictured. When you look at his actions over the course of the season it all falls into place.
First off he was really shy when it came to touching his girlfriend Mac. He in general has serious issues with that. At first I figured he was just really shy.
Then we learn Veronica has the chlamydia. Now that was right out of the blue. But later we learn the Mayor also had Chlamydia twice. Now I figured that she got it because Duncan cheated. It really was left a mystery as to whether ornot he also slept with Cassidy's step mom. But Logan reveals that as far as he knew Duncan only slept with Veronica and Meg. So... how did she get it?
We also learn that the Mayor was molesting kids...
and we get a small appearance by a kid we only see in like one scene hanging with Cassidy. Now if you really paid attention then you'd know that kid films war movies on the beach... What happens in war movies? Stuff tends to blow up.
If you paid attention, you saw that Cassidy was the culprit. It was clever, it really was. But my god when that airplane blew up I was heartbroken. I mean... Kristen Bell gave a FANTASTIC performance during that scene. Hell she is a fantastic actress either way.
Also on the rooftop we learn that she wasn't just 'raped' by Duncan(who was also drugged at the time and thought it was just consensual) but also by Cassidy. That little bastard. I wasn't upset that he committed suicide. Though I really wish he had screwed over Kendall(step mom) before he died... well she died fairly quickly in season 3 but still.
For the Rape arc... Well I really can't piece it together. I have thought about the evidence and the only thing I came up with is that whats his face could have easily faked the live recordings. Of course the fact that he would have an alibi each night is... suspicious.
However the mystery was great. Whats really ironic about it was that the feminist were against the entire greek system... when the rapists were not exactly part of it. At least not that i could recall. I just don't remember them being part of any fraternity. Sure I can see why hating on them. But as Veronica points out. With or without the system... the rapist would still be out there.
The Deans Murder.
So Tim was the killer. Unfortunately with or without the evidence leading to this I figured it out anyways. Simply because suddenly, as the mystery was getting closer to being solved... Tim took an active role in the investigation with Veronica. And it makes sense.
Either he gets revenge on his teacher for treating him like crap or he pulls off a perfect murder. Its one thing to write it, its another to commit it. Either way I think as long as he didn't end up in jail for it he won. I could go over the evidence against him. But I am bored of that... great storyline though.
Oh thats right. The confrontation between Veronica and Tim was excellent. Now she wasn't in danger and she didn't need rescuing, but it was just an epic moment. Just as Tim was getting comfortable speaking to his new class and going over the Case with the students Veronica realizes something is wrong. and Then she strikes pointing out how he did it and why.
The Castle.
This episode was great. However... its the ending that kills me. Now I know the writers wanted her to learn a big lesson. She can't always get her way that her actions can seriously screw her closest friends and family over.
But she could probably make the case against her father go away. Yes by doing so she would piss off some of the most powerful people in the world. But in reality they can't do anything to her. During the case to solve how a sex tape about her gets out she comes across information that could destroy these very very powerful people.
At the end of season 3 she quite literally has the power to crush everyone on that list. All she would need to do was set up a system that would release the information if she was ever threatened, killed, or 'mysteriously' vanishes. and everything would go public. Now I think the Veronica at the start of the series would, but I don't think she has it in her anymore.
But all she had to do was ask a simple favor to find a way to get Keith off any charges. The fact is Mr. Kane could have done it by himself.(Oh by the way seeing Lily's sudden reappearance in that portrait was fantastic.)
Not only would he, but it would be his only option. I mean think about it. How would the rest of your secret society react if all your information was stolen by a 19 year old girl? Not just names but confessions of every members deepest and darkest secret. Now Veronica would have about a hundred different targets painted on her back... and they would all know if they pulled the trigger it be their own suicide.
Hell Veronica could just blackmail this fact to the other people on the list. Help my dad out or... well lets see what your buddies think of this.
But in the end, they wanted to give her see how her actions has serious consequences. For starters there is very little chance that Keith would ever make it as sheriff even if he did get out of the legal trouble. Even if he doesnt thats also ruined. I am not sure but even his PI business might be ruined if he does go to jail.
But since there is no season 4 and unlikely there would be a movie...
In my version. Veronica doesn't release the info or blackmails the Castle.(even though I'd love to see that happen)
Keith is found not guilty and gets elected as Sheriff... or you know just continues on as a PI.
Anyways I have typed to much on the show for now.
Oh one last thing.
