"Howard's Tale" by Sick Puppies
You need to listen to this. It's my current favorite song. So sad, but so necessary.
Don't worry. This one's pretty mellow, so you who don't appreciate metal won't be offended.
Lyrics:
Age 5, just a little boy shy
Is he ready for the big surprise
He'll be playing lego in a dream
When the shadows come to life
Age 9 and he should've been fine
With a secret he's sure to keep
Two times had to tell a little lie
For the sake of him and me
Now it's over
I need closure
Hey, look what you did to me
When you were taking me home
Getting me stoned
Leave me alone
I waited for mom to comfort me
But when I opened my mouth
Don't say nothing, shhh
Age 12 and it isn't going well
Now it's 3 years to the day
Confused, but unlike you
This feeling won't go away
16 and the woman down the street
Has invited him to come inside
The first time, it didn't feel right
It'll be the last time he tries
Hey, look what you did to me
When you were taking me home
Getting me stoned
Leave me alone
I waited for mom to comfort me
But when I opened my mouth
Don't say nothings wrong
I won't say nothings wrong
I won't say, I won't say
I won't say, I won't say
I won't say, I won't say
17, all he's ever seen
Is the living in between the lies
It's kind of funny how a mind
Can keep living in denial
18 is a very strange scene
He's still playing with the past
Expelled, maybe someone could've helped
If someone had known to ask
Hey, look what you did to me
When you were taking me home
Getting me stoned
Leave me alone
I waited for mom to comfort me
But when I opened my mouth
Don't say nothing, shhh
19 and he's innocently
Parked right beside a school
He stares at a boy sitting there
And the boy stares at him too
He walks over
He needs closure
Basically there's a little boy who was drugged and molested (by his father, possibly) from age 5 to 9. Even after it's over, it still haunts him.
He hasn't told anyone, and that causes problems.
When he's 16, he tries to figure things out with sex. Having been abused by a man as a child, being with a girl doesn't feel right.
It continues to eat at him, still a secret. He is eventually kicked out of school.
When he's 19, he continues the cycle by doing the same to another kid.
Beautifully tragic.
If you ever even suspect that someone is being abused, report it. Don't let the Howards of the world keep going. He needed help. Help him.
So... Thoughts? Opinions?

Srsly? No one cares to listen to this? Your loss.
In a second effort to discuss Sick Puppies, I shall introduce another great song from the same album. "The Bottom." Interpretation is up for discussion. What do I think it's about? One word: zombies.
Anyone beginning to see why I'm so madly in love with Shimon Moore?

Sick Puppies are awesome. Even awesomer live. Great song. That whole album is really good, it's on my imaginary "favorites" list.
That's all the input I have.

Truth. I still haven't seen them live. My dad saw them in December just a few days before I went to California and met them. I'm really hoping they perform at the Very Merry XMas Party again this year...xChorusOfAngelsx wrote:Sick Puppies are awesome. Even awesomer live. Great song. Yep. Great album. Just not as good as Tri-Polar.

I haven't heard any of Tripolar yet, other than the first single off of it. I've been stuck in metal mode for the last year or so, so I just haven't gotten around to listening. I'm a crappy fan

And what's the first single? Street Fighter? Going Down? I absolutely love Odd One.xChorusOfAngelsx wrote:I haven't heard any of Tripolar yet, other than the first single off of it. I've been stuck in metal mode for the last year or so, so I just haven't gotten around to listening. I'm a crappy fan

"You're Going Down", I think. Didn't really care for it though.

Eh, that's okay, I guess. When I first heard it, I really loved it, but now it's just mediocre.
Re: "Howard's Tale" by Sick Puppies
They really overplayed it on the radio here, it was just "ehh" to begin with and now it's just annoying.

I think you should check out "Riptide." Seems like something you'd enjoy.
And I love "So What I Lied."

Really? Words cannot express my immense disappointment. I was hoping for — and expecting — a lot more people to comment. This is just sad.
And you don't even care about zombies? Not cool.

Oh. My. Gosh.
Still? Seriously?
Please...? Man, I'm so desperate. You don't need to discuss. I just want to know that you've at least listened to the song. It's so moving. I think you all need to hear it.
And it's freakin' ZOMBIES! You people are way too hard to please. Would it be cooler if I told you they were drug-abusing zombies?

Hrmm "Rip Tide" isn't catching me. "So What I Lied" isn't bad though, I kinda dig it. This album still isn't nearly as good as Dressed Up As Life though. :p

Still a hell of a lot better than Welcome to the Real World. Australian white guys attempting rap just don't appeal to me.

I just listened to it and it was definitely worth it. It was such a beautiful and sad song. I actually had tears in my eyes at the end. Thanks for posting this, Hannah.

It is. I've heard it dozens of times, but it always has the same effect on me.
No problem, Chas.

Sorry for the slightly late response. My mom made me get off of the computer. Haha
Lol! I've never listened to Sick Puppies before. I might have to now since I really liked that song.

But I must warn you. Most of their songs are pretty explicit.

Haha, that's okay. My friend listens to a lot of explicit music. I'm used to it by now. lol

They're not super heavy. I think the only song that even screams is Issues.
The Way, What Are You Looking For, My World, All the Same, Too Many Words, Anywhere But Here, Odd One, Maybe, Don't Walk Away, and White Balloons are all soft and pretty.

Re: "Howard's Tale" by Sick Puppies
I just made my brother, who hates Sick Puppies, listen to "The Bottom." He said it sounded like a cross between Red Hot Chili Peppers and Korn. Then he was like, "Mmm... That sounds good."
Now if only we could throw in a little Smashing Pumpkins, and it'll be a party! xD
