Coming of Age Movies
OK so I have seen too many horror/slasher movies over the past couple days. I browsed through my 'To See List' and realized something. They are almost all horror movies. Now the fact that nearly all of them are probably going to be really bad... I need a change of pace for a bit.
SO!
Can anyone name some good movies with the theme of Coming of Age or in general movies dealing with issues teens might go through?
Please and Thank you!

Re: Coming of Age Movies
Well, the first movie that popped into my head was one I just finished watching... "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" In a nutshell, Gilbert has to take care of his little brother, Arnie who is getting ready to turn 18 and is mentally challenged along with their mother who is clinically obese... Both Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio did amazing in the movie and it's impossible to watch without crying! A definite must-see...
Others that I really like include
~My Girl
~Sixteen Candles
~The Sandlot
~The Dead Poet's Society
~Stand By Me
~Almost Famous
~December Boys
~Heavenly Creatures
~Old Yeller
~Tex
~The Outsiders
Let me know if you want more, I know plenty!

Re: Coming of Age Movies
So far I have seen:
Stand By Me. Which is a movie I have always wanted to see, mostly because its based off of one of Stephen King's books. But for some reason I never got around to it. I loved this film. Boys being Boys while on a small adventure that turns into life altering thing. The acting was great. It wasn't until I finished it did I realize Keifer Sutherland played Ace. I am so used to him being Jack Bauer off of 24. He did a great job. Everything about this movie was just great.
I am currently watching Whats Eating Gilbert Grape. So far its such an amazing movie. Leonardo Dicaprio did a fantastic job playing Arnie, aswell as Johnny Depp as Gilbert. Also I love some of the humor in this movie. You can really see Gilbert struggle and just want to get the hell out of this situation.
After Whats Eating Gilbert Grape, I am going to watch Sixteen Candles. Again this is another movie I have been meaning to watch. Mostly because of Anthony Michael Hall and partially for Molly Ringwald. Which reminds me, I should probably rewatch The Breakfast Club. lol

What Melissa said, I think I am going to rewatch it. Its actually one of my favorite movies. Its a great story about how appearances and such can be the complete opposite of whats actually going on. While also showing that when it comes down to it we could all find similar things in common. Also I love that fail image. Awesome.
Hmm then I will definitely have to check out Almost Famous.
