please pray for me.

My dog, who has never had one before, had a seizure this morning. we call the vet and he said to watch over him. well, 3 hours later he seems fine so we went to the mall to get these DAMN EMT pants I “Needed.” and we went to Olive Garden for lunch.

we came home to find him under the desk in a state of shock with his tounge sticking out.

we rushed to the animal hospital on rt1 over by Mary Wash. his heart rate was dropping and they didn’t know what was going on. they gave him a shot to boost his heart rate and it stabilized him. they have to keep him overnight for tests, to find out what caused it and IF they can save him.

I’ve never been so scared in my life. he is my first pet, he has gotten me through some terrible shit. If he doesn’t make it, I really do not know what I’ll do.

I don’t think I’ve ever cried so hard for so long in my life. and that is not an exaggeration, I honestly mean that.

God I hope he will be ohkay.

as of 3pm he had another seizure.

Oh Steph, I'm so sorry! My dog has seizures a lot but nothing that bad. You're in my thoughts

My dog has been acting weird too. He's very old, almost 14. Lots of problems going on but he started falling over and doing a weird seizure thing lasting a couple seconds. Vet had no idea what it is. We had a theory that it was acid reflux because it was right after he ate and he'd act like he was going to puke. So the vet suggested a low dose of Pepcid and he's been fine. *shrugs* Who knew dogs got heartburn.

we think he had a stroke while we were gone. when we got home there was water all over the floor (yes, water) by the bowl.
we found him under the desk in the office stiff and with his tounge out, breathing very rapidly.

i think he went for a drink and either had a seizure or a stroke, fell and spilled the water, and then went in the office to be alone. god only know how long he was there. but I pray he iwll be ohkay. I dont know what ill do if he isnt. he's been here for me through so much bullshit.

I'm sorry you have to deal with this. My pets are like my children, so I know how hard it is when something's wrong.

thank you hannah<3 it is very hard. but im hopeful. God worked a miracle on my life and saved me from deaths door, im sure he could do it for a four-legged-furry friend too.

My dad finally got a call from the Vet.
everything is stable, except his glucose levels. they are having trouble stabilizing those. but, for the most part, things are looking good. we will keep calling in throughout the night to check up on him, they think he may either
1-have a tumor in his pancreas
or
2-have a form of doggie diabetes.
I didnt know dogs could have diabetes.

If doggie diabetes is like people diabetes, that seems more likely. Especially with the glucose levels. Well, and the seizures. That's probably the better diagnosis anyway. Hopefully, if anything is wrong, it's that. They probably have special dog food and stuff, so he should be fine.

I know cats can have diabetes, so I guess dogs can too.

A similar situation happened to me a few months ago. My cat, Essay, got attacked by a racoon and then fell off our balcony. He is 13 years old, but very healthy, and he was able to pull through. I think that was the worst week of my life, coming home from school everyday having spaz attacks wondering if my mom was going to tell me he died. Not fun at all.

I hope your dog recovers. I'm sure he will.

That's literally the same exact thing that happened to my dog in 2007. Except his diabetes went undetected for so long that it screwed with his liver. His pancreas is completely useless; he has to have insulin shots twice a day and he has special prescription food. Once we got the level of insulin needed down, we stopped testing every day because he hates it (blood is taken from the tip of an ear and you can tell it hurts). Diabetes also caused cataracts to form on his eyes as well, so he's completely blind. It's a lot of work and gets expensive(between the insulin, special food, and test strips, syringes, lancets), so prepare yourself if your buddy is diabetic. My mom takes care of all the testing and shots, but before my dog got used to being stabbed several times a day, I had to hold him down. It's very difficult to watch and take part in.

Just a word of advice- Don't buy insulin from the vet. Get a prescription and head to Walmart. Here it's $65 at the vet; same insulin is $20-something at Wally World. Also, dog treats that you buy at the store have a ton of sugar in them. I have a recipe for homemade doggie treats made with liver, egg and wheat flower. They smell horrible when they're baking, and you will go through several blenders, but they wont affect his blood.

We got a call this morning saying they think it is a tumor, because they cant regulate his levels of glucose. they are going to do an ultrasound on him and call us.

all the research I have read, none of it points toward a tumor, justl ow blood sugar.

so, I still have hope.

we have to put him down tomorrow.
God is taking my best friend, there is nothing worse that could happen.

Oh my gosh. I'm so sorry. Did they find out what was wrong?

Just try to cherish your last day together. Be grateful you're getting a chance to say goodbye. I know it'll probably be the hardest thing you've ever had to do, but it's better than just finding him with no warning.

I'm not gonna tell you you'll be okay, that it'll get better, because it won't. The first night is torture. Just know that I know what this feels like, and while there's nothing I can do to help, I'm always willing to listen, no matter how upset you are.

We are leaving soon to go but my Domino to sleep. Please pray for us, this is the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I love my best friend, my snuggle bear, my comfort, my bomb. I don't want him to suffer♥

Aww I'm sorry Steph. I was hoping that it was something manageable like diabetes and he would be ok. It's so hard losing a pet.
